(AbsoluteNews.com) – Citizens of the United States vote their fellow Americans into office to speak for them on the issues most important to them. Constituents expect those in Congress and elsewhere in elected positions to work hard for the US and its people, not to fight amongst themselves. However, there’s an ongoing rivalry between Representatives Ilan Omar (D-MN) and Lauren Boebert (R-CO) that isn’t getting any better. Instead of resolving their differences and concentrating on their tasks to represent their constituents, the two are digging in their heels and dragging on a public fight.
Fighting in Congress
During Thanksgiving break, the Congress member from Colorado told a story to a group, painting the Muslim representative from Minnesota as a suicide bomber terrorist. Boebert also referred to Omar as part of the “Jihad Squad,” causing an uproar in social media. The Minnesota lawmaker responded via Twitter, saying that “anti-Muslim bigotry isn’t funny,” calling the legislator from Colorado, a “buffoon.”
Fact, this buffoon looks down when she sees me at the Capitol, this whole story is made up. Sad she thinks bigotry gets her clout.
Anti-Muslim bigotry isn’t funny & shouldn’t be normalized. Congress can’t be a place where hateful and dangerous Muslims tropes get no condemnation. https://t.co/S1APT7RbqW

After reconsidering her words and their impact on those who practice other religions, Boebert took to social media to apologize to “anyone in the Muslim community” she offended. She even went a step further to reach out to Omar by telephone. When Boebert refused to apologize to Omar publicly and admit she made up the story she told over the holiday break, the Minnesota representative promptly hung up.
Omar called Boebert an “insurrectionist who sleeps with a pervert” and “shamefully”…”defiles the house” for her continued attacks. Nevermind that Omar, herself, has been the instigator many a time, if her repeated anti-Semitic comments are any indication.
Unfortunately, all the drama does nothing to advance any legislation that will help the American people. The fight only sets an example of division in the United States and the rest of the world.
What Others Had to Say
Congresswoman Cori Bush (D-MO) stated that Capitol Hill is “toxic” and is no place for Islamaphobic rhetoric with no real consequences.
Other Democratic leaders want Boebert to retract her comments, stating her conduct is “beneath the standard of integrity” for representatives in the House. Many are calling on House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to punish the Colorado legislator.
However, the California lawmaker said Boebert had already apologized and encouraged them both to work out their differences so Congress could get back to business.
Finding Common Ground
In every office across America, there are some people who simply don’t get along. It’s part of being in society and human nature. If Boebert and Omar cannot agree to disagree and refocus their efforts on matters in the House, it’s the American people who voted them into office who will pay the price. As of now, neither lawmaker is showing signs of compromise.
