Road House Sequel: Guy Ritchie Teams Up with Jake Gyllenhaal for Action-Packed Return!

Los Angeles, California – Director Guy Ritchie is set to helm a sequel to “Road House,” with actor Jake Gyllenhaal returning to his role as Dalton, a former UFC fighter. This upcoming project marks the third collaboration between Ritchie and Gyllenhaal and their second with Amazon MGM Studios, following the release of “Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant.”

The screenplay for “Road House 2” is being penned by Will Beall, known for his work on titles such as “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” and “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.” While specific details about the plot remain undisclosed, producers include Charles Roven and Alex Gartner from Atlas Entertainment, alongside Gyllenhaal, who is also involved through his Nine Stories Productions. Executive producer credits go to Ivan Atkinson.

The original “Road House,” which debuted in 2023 as a reimagining of the 1989 classic starring Patrick Swayze, featured Gyllenhaal as Dalton, navigating the challenges of life as a bouncer in a Florida Keys roadhouse. The storyline follows his journey as he faces off against outlaws and bikers, including Conor McGregor in his film debut, all while contending with a developer aiming to construct an exclusive resort.

The film resonated with audiences, prompting Amazon MGM to announce plans for a sequel during its first Upfronts presentation last summer. Released on Prime Video in March, the film achieved remarkable success, attracting nearly 80 million viewers globally within its first eight weeks, making it the studio’s most-watched film debut on the platform.

Guy Ritchie’s career is marked by significant achievements, including the billion-dollar hit “Aladdin” and the critically acclaimed British gangster film “The Gentlemen,” which has inspired a successful spinoff series on Netflix. Recently, Ritchie launched the Paramount+ drama series “MobLand,” featuring an all-star cast including Tom Hardy and Helen Mirren. He has several upcoming projects in the pipeline, including “Fountain of Youth,” set to premiere on Apple TV+.

Transitioning to direct the sequel, Ritchie takes over from Doug Liman, who previously expressed dissatisfaction with the film’s streaming release, which deviated from its intended theatrical debut. This change occurred after Amazon’s acquisition of MGM, leading to a strategic shift in distribution.

Both Ritchie and Gyllenhaal are represented by WME, while Beall’s representation includes WME and Entertainment 360, among others. As anticipation builds for “Road House 2,” fans can expect an engaging continuation of Dalton’s story within the gritty world of brawls and rivalries.
