Los Angeles, CA – Acclaimed actor Ryan Hurst, known for his acclaimed performances in popular television shows like Sons of Anarchy and The Walking Dead, has joined the star-studded cast of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film adaptation of Homer’s classic epic poem, The Odyssey.
The Universal feature, currently in production, boasts an impressive lineup of Hollywood A-listers including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, and Jon Bernthal. Other talented names onboard the project include Mia Goth, Elliot Page, Samantha Morton, Benny Safdie, and Cosmo Jarvis.
Described by Universal as a “mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new Imax film technology,” Nolan’s rendition of Homer’s timeless tale is set to bring the legendary saga to Imax screens for the first time, with a theatrical release scheduled for July 17, 2026.
The story of The Odyssey follows the adventures of the Greek hero King Odysseus, portrayed by Damon in Nolan’s adaptation, as he embarks on a challenging 10-year journey back home to Ithaca following the Trojan War. Filled with divine interventions, encounters with mythical creatures like Cyclopes, and political turmoil in Odysseus’ absence, the narrative also delves into the struggles faced by his wife and son in his absence.
Having made a name for himself in the entertainment industry since the 1990s, Ryan Hurst has showcased his talent in various films and television series, with notable appearances in Remember the Titans, We Were Soldiers, and Bates Motel. However, it was his portrayal of the beloved character Opie Winston in Sons of Anarchy that truly solidified his place in the hearts of viewers.
Recently seen in the Disney+ series Mysterious Benedict Society, based on best-selling novels by Trenton Lee Stewart, Hurst is set to star in the upcoming Netflix show The Abandons alongside Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson.
