Scientist’s ‘space telescope’ photo is actually chorizo – Space.com

A physicist shared a photo from the James Webb Space Telescope on July 31 that appeared to be a view of a star. However, the photo was actually a slice of tasty chorizo.

Etienne Klein was the scientist who tweeted this picture.

Klein shared this photo of a slice of chorizo against a black background.

Klein’s photo went viral, spawning angry comments from James Webb Space Telescope fans, who were prompted to clarify that the image was not from the famed telescope.

After letting his followers indulge in the magnificence of the supposed extraterrestrial image, Klein replied to the tweet with a joking response, warning them to beware of cognitive bias. He was forced to clarify further several hours later, saying that it was all a joke.

After he apologized for the prank, Klein told a french news outelt that he posted the photo to educate the public about fake news.

NASA’s JWST space telescope has revealed some stunning images of the universe so far. These images include a supernova, the farthest star we’ve ever seen and the deepest view of the universe we’ve ever seen.
