NEW YORK – After facing public backlash for his aggressive behavior towards staff members in the past, Broadway and film producer Scott Rudin is set to make a comeback, as revealed in an interview with The New York Times.
In the interview, Rudin shared that he has more than twelve shows currently in development, spanning musicals and plays. Among these projects are collaborations with acclaimed actress Laurie Metcalf, who will star in at least three of the upcoming productions under Rudin’s direction and producer Joe Mantello.
One of Rudin’s upcoming productions is “Little Bear Ridge Road,” a play by Samuel D. Hunter that will feature Metcalf and be directed by Mantello. Additionally, Rudin plans to produce “Montauk,” a new play by David Hare starring Metcalf and also directed by Mantello. Future seasons will bring a revival of “Death of a Salesman” with Metcalf and Nathan Lane, directed by Mantello.
Expressing his admiration for Metcalf as an actress and a collaborator, Rudin mentioned in the interview with The Times’ Michael Paulson that he has undergone self-reflection and therapy since his departure from Broadway. He acknowledged his past behavior as “bone-headed” and “narcissistic,” emphasizing a newfound sense of self-control and a desire to not disappoint those around him.
Despite his plans for Broadway, Rudin also expressed interest in returning to film producing eventually. However, he remains focused on his Broadway projects for the time being, highlighting a personal growth and sense of responsibility towards his family, collaborators, and himself.
As Rudin looks towards his comeback in the theatrical world, he acknowledges the challenges that lie ahead. With a newfound perspective on his past actions and a commitment to improving his behavior, Rudin strives to prove himself in the industry once again, ensuring a more positive and respectful environment for those he works with.
