Season 3 of “The Last of Us” Renewed by HBO – Creator Reveals Plans for Epic Conclusion

Los Angeles, CA – HBO has announced the renewal of “The Last of Us” for a third season, exciting fans ahead of the Season 2 premiere on April 13.

The first season of the series, based on the popular 2013 Sony Playstation game, received high praise. However, with the release of the game’s sequel, “The Last of Us Part II,” in 2020, show creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann found that the story was too vast to fit into just one season. As a result, they decided to split the events of “Part II” into multiple seasons, with Mazin hinting at one or two more seasons before reaching the conclusion of the storyline.

The upcoming seven-episode Season 2 is set to delve deeper into the post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a fungal pandemic, where infected individuals turn into the undead. Starring Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Gabriel Luna, Rutina Wesley, Kaitlyn Dever, and Isabela Merced, among others, the series has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal fan base since its debut in 2023.

Druckmann, who served as the writer and creative director of the original games, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to see “The Last of Us” come to life on screen. He credited the success of the series to the collaboration with HBO, Mazin, and the entire production team.

Executive producers Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesko, and Asad Qizilbash, along with showrunners Mazin and Druckmann, have worked tirelessly to bring the gripping story to viewers. The outstanding reception of Season 2 has left HBO executives thrilled, with plans in place for an equally compelling third season.

Francesca Orsi, head of HBO drama and films, commended the team behind “The Last of Us” for their exceptional work, expressing excitement about the upcoming season and the continuation of Mazin and Druckmann’s storytelling prowess. With an ensemble cast, talented crew, and dedicated fan base, the future looks promising for the series.
