WARREN COUNTY, MS – A day of mourning in Warren County, Mississippi, followed a tragic bus crash, resulting in seven deaths, including a 6-year-old boy and his 16-year-old sister, and left dozens requiring hospitalization. The incident occurred around 12:40 a.m. local time, as reported by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Engaged by Regiomontanos Autobuses, the bus was westbound on Interstate 20 when it inexplicably steered off the roadway, causing it to roll over. The authorities have yet to identify the factors leading to the vehicle’s departure from the interstate.
Six casualties were immediately announced at the scene, with one further victim passing away from their injuries at Vicksburg’s Merit Health Hospital. The incident also inflicted injuries of an unspecified nature on 37 other passengers, who were rushed to local hospitals in Vicksburg and Jackson. The co-driver is reported to have survived without the need for hospital care.
While the authorities have not yet publicly released the identities of the victims, the Warren County coroner, Doug Huskey, confirmed that two of the deceased were children, aged six and 16, from Guatemala, identified by their mother. Huskey also suggested that several other passengers on the bus were from the same Central American nation.
No other vehicles were implicated in this tragic incident. The Mississippi Highway Patrol, in collaboration with the Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division, is currently conducting an investigation into the cause of the accident.
