Los Angeles, California – Author and wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, Jillian Shriner, was involved in a shooting incident with police in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of East LA. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the situation led to Jillian being shot by law enforcement and subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
The incident unfolded on a Tuesday afternoon when police officers were in the area trying to track down a suspect from an unrelated hit-and-run incident. During their search, they spotted a woman, later identified as Jillian Shriner, armed with a handgun in a neighboring residence’s backyard. The officers repeatedly ordered her to drop the weapon, but she refused and pointed it at them, which led to an Officer-Involved Shooting.
Following the gunfire, Jillian fled into her residence but later surrendered and was taken into custody. Police found a 9-millimeter firearm inside the home. Thankfully, no officers or bystanders were harmed during the altercation.
The LAPD representative could not clarify why Jillian was in possession of a gun at the time, especially given her lack of connection to the hit-and-run being investigated by the police. Video footage captured by CNN affiliate KCBS/KCAL showed Jillian and another woman exiting the home with their hands up before Jillian was seen lying on the ground and then being handcuffed by the authorities.
Jillian Shriner was then transported to a local hospital to receive treatment for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. It remains unclear whether she has been released to a correctional facility or is still undergoing medical care. Her bail has been set at $1 million, as per publicly available arrest records.
In a related development, one male suspect connected to the hit-and-run was briefly detained and subsequently released by the California Highway Patrol. However, the other two suspects remain at large. Jillian Shriner, who has been married to Scott Shriner of Weezer since 2005, is facing serious legal consequences following the incident.
Weezer, the rock band in which Scott Shriner plays bass, was recently added to the lineup for the upcoming Coachella Festival and is set to perform at the festival this weekend in the Mojave tent. The future remains uncertain for the Shriner family as they navigate the aftermath of this tragic turn of events.
