Shooting erupts outside of Wells Fargo bank

PHILADELPHIA, PA – A dispute over a parking space in Philadelphia’s Rhawnhurst neighborhood resulted in a woman being shot in the thigh, according to local authorities. The incident unfolded in a Wells Fargo bank parking lot around 9 a.m. Monday, on the 7300 block of Bustleton Avenue.

The victim’s friend, Gladys Sylvein, described how a routine bank visit escalated into a perilous situation. She said her friend got into an argument with a couple about the proximity of her parking to their car. As the dispute escalated, the man allegedly brandished a gun.

Capt. James Kearney of the Philadelphia Police Department reported that the gun was first pointed directly at Sylvein before the man lowered it and shot her friend in the leg. Bystanders and a nearby mall security guard ran to assist the injured woman while the couple fled the scene.

Authorities emphasized that the situation could have ended even more tragically as the victim’s two grandchildren were in the vehicle during the shooting. The victim, a 61-year-old woman, is now in stable condition at a local hospital.

While no arrests have been made, police believe they have substantial leads on the alleged shooter who was involved in the incident.
