Smart Glasses: Meta Rolls Out Live Translation Feature to Global Markets, Expands Access to AI and Messaging Services

San Francisco, CA – Meta has introduced new color lens combinations for its Ray-Ban smart glasses and extended access to certain features previously exclusive to members of Meta’s Early Access Program. Among these features are live translation, the capability to send messages and make calls through Instagram, and interactions with Meta AI based on the user’s surroundings.

The live translation feature, which was initially previewed at Meta Connect 2024, has now been rolled out to all markets where the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are available. This feature allows users to engage in conversations with individuals speaking English, French, Italian, or Spanish, and receive real-time translations in their preferred language through the smart glasses.

Moreover, users can download language packs in advance to utilize the live translations feature without the need for Wi-Fi or cellular network access, enhancing its convenience while traveling internationally. Meta also highlighted upcoming features, such as the Live AI, enabling the Meta AI smart assistant to observe user activities for more seamless interactions, set to become widely available in the US and Canada.

Additionally, the ability to send and receive direct messages, photos, audio calls, and video calls from Instagram on the smart glasses, similar to existing functionalities on WhatsApp, Messenger, and native messaging apps on iOS and Android, will soon be introduced. Access to music apps like Spotify, Amazon Music, Shazam, and Apple Music is gradually expanding beyond the US and Canada, with Meta specifying that requests for music playback or more information will only be available to users with English set as their default language.

Meta AI, which recently launched in the UK, is set to become accessible in all supported countries in the EU starting next week. The company also revealed plans to introduce the Ray-Ban smart glasses in Mexico, India, and the United Arab Emirates in the near future, although specific timelines have yet to be announced.
