Spa owner charged with selling lollipops with weight loss drugs in them

MIAMI, FL – A South Florida spa owner has found herself embroiled in legal troubles after being accused of distributing weight loss medications without a proper medical license. Law enforcement officials allege that the owner of X Lash by Yanni, a spa located in southwest Miami-Dade, was involved in the unauthorized sale of prescription drugs, including weight loss lollipops infused with phentermine.

The investigation began after authorities received complaints about Yanelis Fundora, the spa’s owner, allegedly selling generic versions of popular weight loss injectables and phentermine-infused lollipops. These medications typically require a physician’s prescription. The situation escalated when an undercover officer visited the spa on southwest 97th Avenue and Sunset Drive, purchasing three lollipops that later tested positive for phentermine.

Court documents reveal that the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office conducted a follow-up operation months later, resulting in a second purchase of ten lollipops from the spa. These lollipops also tested positive for the same prescription drug, prompting the issuance of a search warrant and Fundora’s subsequent arrest.

Authorities have charged the 44-year-old spa owner with practicing healthcare without a license. Fundora is currently out on bail and contesting the charges against her.

X Lash by Yanni, which maintains an active presence on social media, frequently promoted weight loss treatments and results using medications like Semaglutide and Tirzepatide. However, investigators emphasize that neither the business nor Fundora held the necessary licenses to legally sell or administer these medications.

The case highlights ongoing concerns in the region about unlicensed health services and the potential risks they pose to consumers. Law enforcement officials are urging the public to be vigilant and ensure that any medical treatments they pursue are conducted by licensed and qualified professionals.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the spa’s future remains uncertain, and it serves as a cautionary tale about the importance of adhering to medical regulations and licensing requirements.
