Tehachapi, California — Rapper Tory Lanez was hospitalized after sustaining injuries from an altercation with another inmate while he was in the yard at the California Correctional Institution. The incident took place on Monday morning, although details surrounding the motive for the attack remain scarce.
Emergency responders transported the 32-year-old musician to a civilian hospital in Bakersfield. Reports indicate that Lanez’s injuries are not life-threatening, which has alleviated some concerns regarding his health following the stabbing.
Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a ten-year prison sentence for shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. Recently, he shared updates from his incarceration on social media, including plans for a new album, which he claims has already been recorded and will feature a new genre. Lanez had teased his followers with a post about the album’s expected release in 2025.
In December 2022, Lanez was found guilty on three charges, including assault with a semiautomatic firearm and other firearm-related offenses. The case stemmed from a shooting incident that erupted following a party at Kylie Jenner’s residence.
During the trial, Megan Thee Stallion testified that Lanez fired a gun at her feet after an argument, causing her significant fear. She underwent surgery to remove bullet fragments, later alleging that Lanez attempted to bribe her with a substantial sum to remain silent about the event.
Following the trial, a judge sentenced Lanez in August 2023, dismissing appeals for a new trial from his defense team. In a further complicating factor, Megan was granted a five-year restraining order against Lanez that will remain in effect until 2030, after she expressed fears for her safety while he allegedly harassed her from prison.
Lanez’s legal challenges have continued to draw public attention, especially with his recent comments regarding his incarceration and upcoming projects. Meanwhile, Megan’s legal team has publicly condemned Lanez’s suggestions that she is “weaponizing” the justice system against him, calling such claims delusional.
Eligible for parole in 2029, Lanez’s future remains uncertain as both his legal battles and recent health scare unfold against a backdrop of escalating tensions. The rapper’s current situation highlights the broader implications of his past actions and ongoing legal struggles.
