Stellar Blade: No PSN Account Needed—But 129 Countries Left in the Dark!

May 16, 2025 by Robin Cooper

Tokyo, Japan — The upcoming release of Stellar Blade on PC is generating buzz among gamers, particularly due to a significant policy change from Sony. Players will not be required to create a PlayStation Network (PSN) account to access the game upon its launch next month. However, those who choose to sync their usernames will unlock an exclusive outfit for the game’s protagonist, Eve, enhancing their gaming experience without imposing any obligations.

Despite this user-friendly move, Stellar Blade will face distribution challenges as it will not be available on Steam in 129 countries, a decision that has left many fans perplexed. While the specifics of the restrictions remain unclear, it’s believed that legal issues may be at play, though Sony has not publicly elaborated on the reasoning behind this decision. Countries affected by the ban include Egypt, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

The restrictions came as a surprise to the game’s developer, Shift Up. The Korean studio expressed disbelief when fans reached out to them on social media, using shocked emojis and inquiring about the locations of the affected customers. This lack of awareness highlights the complexities developers face in navigating international distribution laws.

In addition to the distribution limitations, some gamers have voiced concerns over the inclusion of Denuvo anti-piracy software in Stellar Blade. This technology has garnered criticism for potentially hindering game performance. In response to these apprehensions, a Shift Up representative took to social media to assure players that the software would not degrade performance, even on lower-end systems. “There is no performance degradation due to DRM,” the representative stated, urging fans to believe in the game’s quality.

Shift Up appears optimistic about the PC launch, predicting that it may eventually outsell the version released for PlayStation 5. Early indicators support this hope, as the game has quickly climbed the Steam pre-order charts, showcasing significant interest from the gaming community. However, the company acknowledges that certain hurdles must be resolved before the game’s debut on June 11.

As the release date approaches, Stellar Blade finds itself at a pivotal juncture. While its absence in multiple countries presents a significant obstacle, the game’s engagement on platforms like Steam hints at a solid fan base eager for its arrival. Fans remain watchful, eager to see how these factors will unfold in the lead-up to launch day.

Overall, the excitement surrounding Stellar Blade speaks to a broader trend within the gaming industry, where players are increasingly drawn to titles that challenge traditional distribution norms and emphasize accessibility. As gaming continues to evolve, the industry watches closely how Stellar Blade navigates its way through these new landscapes.
