Tangled Live-Action Movie Put on Hold by Disney Amid Lackluster ‘Snow White’ Reception – Future Revival Possible?

Los Angeles, California – Disney has made the decision to halt production on the live-action adaptation of the popular 2010 animated film “Tangled,” sources have revealed. The project, which was set to bring the Brothers Grimm fairy tale of Rapunzel to life, had filmmaker Michael Gracey attached to direct, known for his work on “The Greatest Showman,” and writer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson from “Thor: Love and Thunder” on board to pen the script.

This pause on “Tangled” comes in the midst of Disney’s recent release of “Snow White,” which has received a lukewarm reception at the box office, bringing in $69 million domestically and $145 million globally so far. The future of the live-action “Tangled” adaptation remains uncertain, leaving fans wondering if it will ever see the light of day.

Despite the setback with “Tangled,” Disney continues to tap into its beloved animated catalog with the announcement of two new projects in the pipeline. “Lilo and Stitch” is scheduled for release on May 23, followed by “Moana” on July 10, 2026. The latter benefits from the success of its predecessor, “Moana 2,” which was a box office hit last year. Interest in “Lilo and Stitch” remains high, with a teaser featuring Stitch crashing the Super Bowl field becoming Disney’s most-watched digital spot, and the trailer release in March ranking as the second-most viewed Disney live-action trailer in its first 24 hours.

The original “Tangled” film, released in 2010, performed exceptionally well, grossing close to $600 million globally and receiving an Oscar nomination for its original song. The movie was well-received by both audiences and critics, boasting an 89% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes.

As Disney navigates the evolving landscape of live-action adaptations, fans eagerly await updates on the fate of “Tangled” and look forward to the upcoming releases of “Lilo and Stitch” and “Moana.” Despite the challenges, Disney’s rich history of animated classics continues to captivate audiences around the world.
