(AbsoluteNews.com) – A week ago, Seattle officials said they were going to take back the six-block area downtown that’s been taken over by protesters. Democratic Mayor Jenny Durkan said it was time to leave the so-called Capitol Hill Organized Protest (CHOP) zone. Her comments came after a 19-year-old died in a shooting in the area. It didn’t happen then — and now another teen is dead.
On June 29, two boys, 16- and 14-years-old, were shot in the CHOP zone. The older teen died and the younger is in critical condition at a Seattle hospital. Witnesses aren’t cooperating with police so the details are still unconfirmed. However, it seems the shooting took place while the teens were in a car.
UPDATE: 16-year-old killed in CHOP-area shooting this morning. 14-year-old still receiving treatment at Harborview for gunshot injuries. https://t.co/kleQnuZP7x

It was the second death in the area in nine days and it didn’t have to happen. City officials went into the area on Friday to clean up but when protesters laid in the street, authorities gave up. It’s hard to imagine leadership just allowing this violence to continue without consequence, but that’s exactly what’s happening in Seattle. Now a child has lost his life and another is in critical condition.
