Los Angeles, Calif. — Matt Remick will continue navigating the complexities of Hollywood, as Apple TV+ has announced the renewal of “The Studio” for a second season. This decision arrives just ahead of the show’s season finale on May 21.
Co-created by Seth Rogen, who also stars as Remick, the series explores the challenges faced by the new head of Continental Studios. Remick grapples with his own insecurities and the intricacies of the film industry while striving to balance the demands of his boss, portrayed by Bryan Cranston, and the desires of the filmmaking community.
Rogen and his co-creator, Evan Goldberg, expressed enthusiasm about bringing the insights from the first season into the next. They noted the ambition to maintain this creative momentum, joking about replicating this cycle for future seasons.
The show debuted on March 26 and has quickly garnered attention for its blend of humor and sharp industry commentary. In addition to Rogen and Cranston, the cast features Catherine O’Hara as Patty Leigh, Remick’s predecessor turned producer, and Ike Barinholtz as Sal Saperstein, a Continental executive who catches the spotlight at the Golden Globes. Chase Sui Wonders and Kathryn Hahn round out the main cast as junior executive Queen Hackett and marketing chief Maya Mason, respectively.
Season one showcased a variety of projects overseen by Remick, including a film adaptation of the Kool-Aid Man, directed by an array of notable filmmakers such as Sarah Polley and Ron Howard. The season also introduced a self-referential flair, with cameos from prominent figures in Hollywood, including Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos.
With a stellar lineup of guest appearances from celebrities like Martin Scorsese, Charlize Theron, and Ice Cube, the show highlights the intersection of reality and satire in the film industry. As the story unfolds, viewers are invited to witness Remick’s attempts to create diverse cinematic offerings, even venturing into genres like neo-noir and horror.
The creative team behind “The Studio” includes Rogen and Goldberg, alongside Frida Perez, Peter Huyck, and Alex Gregory. They serve as executive producers along with Point Grey Pictures’ James Weaver, Alex McAtee, and Josh Fagen. Lionsgate Television, which holds a first-look partnership with Point Grey, is responsible for the production.
Apple TV+ is optimistic about the series’ future. Matt Cherniss, the head of programming for the platform, praised the cast and crew’s work, noting its success in sparking conversations with viewers. He expressed excitement for the direction of Remick’s character in the upcoming season and hopes that the Kool-Aid movie will resonate with audiences when it hits theaters.
As anticipation builds for the next chapter of “The Studio,” fans and industry insiders alike will be eager to see how Rogen and his colleagues will continue to navigate the entertaining challenges of filmmaking.
