(AbsoluteNews.com) – When people disappear without a trace, it leaves families and society as a whole in disbelief. While searches can bring communities together, the unanswered questions leave loved ones in a constant “state of limbo.”
One such mystery occurred in 2014, when Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 took off from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and vanished into thin air along with the 239 people on board.
Oddly, the plane unexpectedly changed course shortly before officials lost contact. The only debris found was a wing on an island in the South Indian Ocean –– a far cry from its presumed crash location.
Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 (MH370) was an international passenger flight that disappeared in March 2014, whilst flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. The search for the missing plane is the most expensive in aviation history and is yet to yield any clear conclusion or location. pic.twitter.com/N0OBz1X9cJ

Another tragic unsolved and open case involves 20-year-old college student Lauren Spierer. She vanished on or near her Indiana University campus in 2011. Despite private investigators and police combing the area and chasing every lead, the young woman’s parents still don’t know their daughter’s fate. Perhaps they never will.
One last famous case might not involve a well-loved personality, but that doesn’t make the story any less baffling. When Teamsters union leader and gangster Jimmy Hoffa disappeared in 1975, many thought a rival Mafia leader bumped him off. But since investigators never found him and remain stumped at every turn to this day, the world can only speculate about where his body might be. That is, if he died in the 1970s at all.
