MINNETONKA, Minnesota – A suspect has been taken into custody after allegedly making threats outside UnitedHealthcare’s headquarters in Minnetonka on Monday morning. The man, who has had previous encounters with law enforcement, arrived at the health insurance company’s campus at around 11 a.m. in the 9700 block of Health Care Lane. Minnetonka city spokesman Andrew Wittenborg disclosed that the suspect parked near the offices.
The presence of law enforcement at the campus has been heightened since the tragic killing of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO, Brian Thompson, back in December. On Monday, the suspect reportedly contacted the FBI, displaying threatening behavior, although no specific threats were directed towards the company itself. After about an hour of negotiations, authorities were able to peacefully apprehend the suspect. A weapon was found in the front passenger seat of his vehicle, but fortunately, he did not enter the building and no injuries were reported.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene to ensure the safety of those at the UnitedHealthcare campus. The FBI and Minnetonka police are currently investigating the motives behind the suspect’s actions and continue to gather more information about the incident. The quick response and successful resolution of the situation highlight the importance of collaboration between different agencies in maintaining public safety.
