Three dead after plane crashes into townhomes

FAIRVIEW, OR – At least three people have died following a small plane crash that caused significant damage to a row of townhomes in Fairview, Oregon, on Saturday morning. The crash, which occurred around 10:30 a.m., sparked a five-alarm fire and left the neighborhood in shock.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office reported that the aircraft began to disintegrate after striking a power pole, resulting in two distinct crash sites. Emergency responders, including the Portland Fire and Rescue team, were quickly on the scene to manage the fire and assist with recovery efforts. Crews also worked to repair the damaged power lines, which had initially left around 9,000 customers without electricity.

Authorities confirmed that two people were aboard the plane, and one resident from the impacted townhomes was reported missing. The Gresham Fire Department later verified that three individuals had been killed, although it remains unclear if these fatalities include the plane’s occupants and the missing resident.

Witnesses described the terrifying moments following the crash. John Sampson, who was nearby, recounted how the impact shook his chair and how he saw the plane’s wings shearing off as it collided with the power lines and homes. The resulting fire spread rapidly, requiring nearly 20 fire engines and several ladder trucks to contain the blaze.

Residents like Andrea Cox, who lives close to the crash site, expressed their distress and concern for their neighbors. “It’s heart-wrenching,” Cox said, emphasizing the community’s focus on ensuring everyone, including pets, was safe.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the incident. Officials have yet to determine the plane’s departure point or the cause of the crash. The NTSB has requested that anyone with information or surveillance footage related to the crash contact them.

As the community grapples with the aftermath, the Red Cross is providing support to displaced residents, ensuring they have shelter and emotional assistance. The neighborhood remains on edge, with many still processing the tragic events that unfolded so suddenly.
