Top Biden Official Says America Is Better Off Now Than it Was a Year Ago

(AbsoluteNews.com) – When politicians or their representatives speak, it’s essential to ensure they have facts to back up their words that will surely face scrutiny. On November 14, a video surfaced on social media of White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain speaking with CNN’s Jake Tapper where he declares the US is doing “a lot better” than the year prior.

He went on to say that the administration has a lot more to do but specifically pointed to the economy and the pandemic as already improved areas. In response, many Americans disagreed with his comments, mocking him on Twitter.

The Cost of Living

People are struggling to keep up with the rising prices of nearly every consumable all across the country. From groceries to gas to holiday gifts, citizens feel the economic crunch, especially with inflation far outpacing wages this year. The annual inflation rate in 2020 was 1.4%, while the most recent data for October shows rates reaching 6.2%. The last time inflation came close to that percentage was in July 2008 at 5.6%.

Add to that the supply chain issues and the oil shortage, and clearly, the economy is not better. A Monmouth University poll shows a whopping 42% of families said they’re not benefiting from the Biden administration, compared to 33% in July.

Crisis at the Border

If the economic numbers weren’t enough to show America in a worse state this year than last, a person needs to look no further than the southern border. The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported in August of this year, it encountered over 208,000 people illegally attempting to enter the United States, up 318% from August of 2020.

Coronavirus Numbers

Although America has multiple COVID-19 vaccines and incorporated social distancing and masking rules in many places across the US, according to Johns Hopkins University, coronavirus deaths so far in 2021 surpassed those of 2020. Plus, NIAID Director Dr. Anthony Fauci warns that we may see another surge, adding to the overall toll.

The Biden Administration

The reactions to the chief of staff’s words, coupled with President Joe Biden’s low approval numbers, indicate America may be losing faith in the current administration to pull the US out of the multiple crises in which we find ourselves. Before Klain speaks again on behalf of the current federal government, it might be a good idea to take a peek at the numbers.
