(AbsoluteNews.com) – Shortly after assuming office on January 20, President Joe Biden halted construction on the Keystone XL pipeline. In doing so, he killed 1,000 existing jobs and 10,000 potential construction jobs with a stroke of a pen. One union leader is very upset about it.
In an interview for “Axios on HBO,” that partly aired on February 7, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka criticized Biden. He told journalist Jonathan Swan that “he wished he hadn’t” canceled the pipeline because it cut some good labor jobs.
Trumka also said eliminating 100 jobs in one state, while creating 100 in another state, does nothing to help the people who were originally hurt. Although the union president was critical of Biden, he also said he thinks the new POTUS will make sure there are jobs to replace the ones he eliminates in the future.
The reality is, Biden should not be eliminating any jobs when the US is recovering from the coronavirus pandemic. He should be creating employment opportunities for the American people. It’s hard to have faith like Trumka does, when the new president doesn’t seem to understand that.
