(AbsoluteNews.com) – In 2019, President Donald Trump issued an executive order creating a task force to address veteran suicides. Every year, 6,000 men and women who honorably served their country die by their own hands. This week the president announced a roadmap to help those brave Americans.
On June 17, the president announced a new initiative to help veterans’ mental health. The President’s Roadmap to Empower Veterans and End a National Tragedy of Suicide (PREVENTS) taskforce has 10 suggestions on how to deal with the issue. A new health campaign targeting soldiers and raising awareness for vet suicide is one. The government will also work to develop partnerships, change how suicide is researched, and other actions that can be taken.

An average of 20 veterans die by suicide each day. There are nonprofit groups like 22Zero that address the issue, but the initiative from the president will go a long way toward making it easier for former soldiers to get the help they need.
