Los Angeles, California- Major television networks ABC and CBS have made decisions regarding the airing of advertisements for the upcoming biopic “The Apprentice,” focusing on the early days of former President Donald Trump’s career in real estate and television. Briarcliff Entertainment, the production company behind the film, expresses disappointment in the reluctance of networks to promote their movie during political debates and newscasts.
Tom Ortenberg, the CEO of Briarcliff Entertainment, vocalized his frustration with the lack of support from Hollywood power players in promoting “The Apprentice.” Despite facing obstacles, the production company remains determined to release the film exclusively in theaters on October 11th. CBS, in particular, has opted not to air commercials for the movie during the upcoming Vice Presidential debate, citing concerns about associating a political candidate with their news broadcasts.
ABC has also reportedly declined to run ads for “The Apprentice” during a recent presidential debate. The film features Sebastian Stan as a young Donald Trump and Jeremy Strong portraying his mentor, attorney Roy Cohn. Maria Bakalova, an Oscar nominee, takes on the role of Ivana Trump in the biopic.
Trump’s campaign reacted strongly to the film’s premiere at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, issuing a cease-and-desist letter and threatening legal action. However, no significant legal actions have been taken thus far. “The Apprentice” includes a controversial scene depicting Trump sexually assaulting his wife, Ivana.
Efforts to obtain comments from the networks regarding their decisions on advertising “The Apprentice” have been made, and updates will be provided as information is received. Briarcliff Entertainment, responsible for the film’s distribution, has been proactive in promoting the movie despite network reluctance, as evidenced by their ads that networks declined to air during debates.
