Two arrested in deadly home invasion

EDMOND, OK – A second suspect has been apprehended in connection with a fatal home invasion that has rocked this suburban community. Authorities took Robert Mayfield Jr., 23, into custody on Wednesday, charging him with murder following the brutal incident that occurred over the weekend.

The grim scene unfolded early Saturday morning when police responded to a call and discovered a man dead from a gunshot wound inside a residence. The home invasion has spurred a multi-agency investigation, involving Edmond police, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the Oklahoma City Police Department.

Eyewitnesses recounted that two men, their identities obscured by hoods, forcibly entered the home. During the altercation, one of the intruders reportedly struck a male resident with a firearm. The suspects then proceeded to a bedroom, where a violent struggle ensued, culminating in the fatal shooting of another man in the chest. A woman present in the home was unharmed physically, though visibly shaken.

The motive behind the home invasion remains unclear. However, a resident informed police that a similar incident involving three men occurred on New Year’s Eve, during which $10,000 was allegedly stolen. The woman believes the same group could be responsible for both incidents.

Authorities have also detained Toro Won Knight, 25, who was tracked via an ankle monitor—an arrangement stemming from his prior arrest for an alleged robbery of a marijuana grow operation in Grady County. Surveillance footage from the November heist purportedly shows Knight among eight masked individuals involved in the theft of cash and marijuana.

Knight’s criminal history is extensive. In August, he was apprehended after a shooting in Bricktown left three people injured. While Knight was seen fleeing the scene with a firearm, he was not charged for the shooting itself.

Further complicating the narrative, Knight and Mayfield were previously arrested together in May after being pulled over for erratic driving, during which marijuana was reportedly found in their vehicle.

As investigators continue to piece together the events leading up to the fatal invasion, the community remains on edge, grappling with the violence that has disrupted their sense of safety.
