Two dead, two more wounded in quadruple shooting

DETROIT, MI – A warm evening turned tragic on Detroit’s west side when gunfire erupted between two groups, leaving two people dead and a young girl injured. The incident, which took place on Patton Street near Midland, has left the community in shock as police continue to investigate the motives behind the shootout.

Authorities confirmed that four people were shot, resulting in the deaths of a 40-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man. A 12-year-old girl was also injured, suffering a graze wound to her leg, and is expected to recover fully. The police have described the investigation as fluid, with preliminary information indicating that the violence began when a woman’s son-in-law allegedly opened fire on the group.

The suspect, a 38-year-old man, was reportedly wounded when someone returned fire. He fled the scene but was later found receiving treatment at Botsford Beaumont Hospital in Farmington Hills. Investigators have discovered two different types of shell casings at the scene, suggesting the use of both a handgun and a rifle in the attack.

In response to the incident, Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison emphasized the department’s commitment to tackling violence as the city prepares for an expected increase in crime during the warmer months. Bettison reassured the public of strategies in place to address such incidents and urged individuals to find peaceful resolutions to conflicts.

Meanwhile, in Eastpointe, another shooting incident occurred in broad daylight, adding to the growing concern over gun violence in the area. A dark sedan approached a minivan on Kelly Road near Eight Mile, firing multiple shots and injuring the driver. The victim, who was rushed to a local hospital, had an open Bible on the dashboard and a Marine Corps ornament hanging from the rearview mirror.

The Eastpointe incident follows a recent quadruple shooting near a Foot Locker store that left two men dead. While police do not currently suspect a connection between the two shootings, the proximity and timing have raised questions among residents.

As investigations continue, authorities are urging anyone with information about these incidents to come forward. Tips can be provided anonymously to the Detroit and Eastpointe police departments.
