Two people killed in house explosion

VAN ALSTYNE, TX – A home explosion in Van Alstyne, Texas, believed to be triggered by a propane gas leak, has resulted in the deaths of two people. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, causing massive devastation in the area.

Local resident Randy Phillips recounted the moment he and his wife were awakened by a loud explosion. Initially, it sounded like a car crash before flames became visible over the treetops from a nearby residence.

Emergency services descended on the scene, with multiple fire departments responding to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to surrounding areas. Once responders extinguished the fire, the full damage revealed the extent of the destruction inflicted by the blast.

The Grayson County fire marshal confirmed that the explosion demolished the home, leaving debris scattered across neighboring properties and shattering windows, including one at Phillips’ house. The cause of the explosion is under investigation by the Texas Railroad Commission, initially pointing to a probable propane leak.

Despite limited personal interactions, Phillips became emotional while discussing his neighbors, who were known in the community for their kindness and warmth.

The area is reeling from the incident, which highlights the sudden and devastating risks posed by potential gas leaks. As the community grapples with the loss, the identities of the victims are withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The fire marshal stated that, while investigations continue, the explosion appears accidental with no suspicion of foul play involved. Authorities are working to determine the exact source of the leak that led to this catastrophic event.
