(AbsoluteNews.com) – Wakefield, England MP Imran Ahmad Khan is known as the United Kingdom’s first openly gay Muslim lawmaker. Now, the man who once broke cultural barriers has been labeled something else: a sex offender.
On Monday, April 11, a jury found Khan guilty of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy in 2008. The jury deliberated for about five hours before handing down its verdict. According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the victim (now 29), told the court the lawmaker touched his legs and feet, and came within a “hair’s breadth” of touching his private parts after forcing him to drink alcohol and watch pornography.
The teenager told his parents about the assault right away and they made a police report, but the victim didn’t want to make a formal complaint.

Khan denied the allegations against him, saying he only touched the victim’s elbow. The lawmaker said the teenager talked about being confused about his sexuality and “became extremely upset.” He claimed he was just trying to help the teen.
The Conservative Party expelled Khan after the conviction was handed down. Now, the lawmaker is awaiting sentencing, if he receives more than a year in jail, he’ll automatically be kicked out of office.
