Unlicensed minor going 118 MPH causes double fatality crash

TOMS RIVER, NJ – A tragic car crash late Friday night claimed the lives of two individuals and left several others injured in Ocean County. The incident involved a high-speed collision between a white BMW and a black Toyota Camry at the intersection of Route 37 and Route 166.

Authorities reported that the crash occurred shortly after 11 p.m. The Toyota Camry, severely damaged, was found overturned at the intersection’s corner with debris scattered across the roadway. The driver and front-seat passenger of the Camry were pronounced dead at the scene, while two backseat passengers were rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in critical condition.

The driver of the BMW, an unlicensed minor, emerged unscathed from the crash and was subsequently detained by police. The passengers in the BMW received medical attention but were released by the following morning.

The roads at the crash site were closed temporarily to facilitate an investigation by law enforcement officials. The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office revealed that prior to the collision, Toms River officers had spotted the BMW speeding and attempted to intercept it. However, the pursuit was called off due to safety concerns.

Seaside Heights police later tracked the BMW traveling at a staggering 118 miles per hour before the crash. Toms River units observed the vehicle heading west on Route 37 but maintained a safe distance without engaging in a chase.

The minor driver now faces numerous charges, including aggravated manslaughter, death by auto, and assault by auto causing injury while driving without a license. The juvenile is currently being held at the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center.

As the investigation continues, the local community grieves the loss of life and the serious injuries sustained by those involved in this devastating incident.
