(AbsoluteNews.com) – When former President Donald Trump was in office, he made defeating ISIS one of his number one foreign policy goals. The US military did an incredible job beating back the terrorist organization over those four years. The Armed Forces have continued Trump’s mission even though he isn’t in office any longer.
On Thursday, February 3, President Joe Biden announced US Special Operations troops carried out a raid in northwest Syria. The target was Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Quraishi, the leader of ISIS. The terrorist had holed up on the top floor of a building with his family as the Americans closed in on him. Before troops were able to get to the target, al-Quraishi detonated a bomb, killing himself and 12 others — including 6 children.

Al-Quraishi took control of ISIS after Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi killed himself in similar fashion during a 2019 raid. In 2014, the terrorist oversaw the genocide of the Yazidi minorities when the organization reportedly used rape as a weapon.
The recent operation came after months of planning. After the raid, Biden said the operation in Syria “sent a strong message to terrorists around the world: We will come after you and find you.” Although the terrorist bomb killed his family, no Americans were injured in the blast.
