US General CONVICTED – A National Disgrace
(AbsoluteNews.com) – For the first time in history, the US Air Force has convicted a general officer in a court-martial trial. The disappointing milestone occurred after a major general sexually assaulted a woman at a BBQ four years ago.
According to a statement by the Air Force, Major General William T. Cooley asked a woman for a ride after attending a BBQ in Albuquerque, New Mexico on August 12, 2018. During the ride, the woman said Maj. Gen. Cooley told her he “fantasized about having sex with her.” He then pushed her against the car window before kissing and groping her. In December 2019, the victim and her husband reported the abuse to the Air Force Office of Special Investigations.
Col. Christina M. Jimenez, the military judge on the case, found Cooley guilty of kissing the victim “with an intent to gratify his sexual desire.” She found him not guilty of two other changes for groping the woman.
A US Air Force general officer was found guilty of abusive sexual contact in military court in Ohio on Saturday. Maj. Gen. William T. Cooley was found guilty on one of three specifications of sexual assault connected to a 2018 incident in New Mexico. https://t.co/8axRo0k3Bx

Ryan Guilds, the victim’s lawyer, told The New York Times Cooley’s conviction is a “hopeful sign” but it took years for his client to get a conviction. He said the reality is, that survivors of sexual assault confront a system that is “very challenging” and he doesn’t “wish that journey on anyone.”
Cooley is facing seven years in prison.
