(AbsoluteNews.com) – China has been very clear about who it supports in the Russian war on Ukraine, and the communist country isn’t part of the international community trying to stop the conflict. US lawmakers are prepared to throw their bipartisan weight behind sanctions against China if it decides to help Russian President Vladimir Putin in any way.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) indicated that if any Chinese company or individual decides to help Putin carry out the war, sanctions would be forthcoming immediately. He went on to say he thinks the communists are already helping Russia finance the war. He explained he doesn’t “need to see anything to tell you that.” He said he believes China is helping Russia because it believes they are “partners in this anti-Western, anti-US effort.” However, the US can’t levy sanctions until there’s proof of wrongdoing.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said lawmakers are “open to applying any pressure [they] can” to both Russia and those that try to help them. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) said China could experience severe consequences for helping the Russians.
Members of Congress from both parties have signaled they'd support penalties against China if the country assists Russia to circumvent U.S. and European Union sanctions. https://t.co/4IRsvqnxhm

If lawmakers do take action to sanction China, it could have broad implications for the US economy. America and China are close trading partners and issues in the communist country have already contributed to skyrocketing inflation in the US. The economic situation could become even more serious should Congress have to take action.
