(AbsoluteNews.com) – When looking at the evolution of COVID-19 since March 2020, it seems like there’s no end to virus variants ripping through the population. Instead of trying to play catchup to get ahead of these mutations, the US plans to invest billions of dollars in expanding vaccine manufacturing, creating a billion additional doses per year by late 2022.
The intent is to expand capacity against SARS-CoV-2 globally and prepare for future pandemics. Executive Director of the Bipartisan Commission on Biodefense, Asha George, said America was not ready for a “biological event” like COVID-19, and the US can’t afford a repeat.

Dr. David Kessler said the money is already available for the increased production due to the American Rescue Plan passed by the Biden administration in March. The move should ensure the government would have enough vaccinations to cover every citizen “within six to nine months” of a future pathogen’s identification. In addition, more doses would help with boosters in the US and initial doses abroad.
Some critics are saying the Biden administration should spend the money on the antiviral pills now in testing, rather than concentrating on more vaccines. However, officials believe expanding vaccine production and distribution within the US and around the world will save lives and prevent further variants from forming.
