Wes Anderson’s “The Phoenician Scheme” Trailer Drops: Benicio del Toro and Mia Threapleton Steal the Show!

Berlin, Germany – Benicio del Toro and Mia Threapleton are set to captivate audiences with their portrayal of a complex father-daughter relationship in Wes Anderson’s upcoming film, “The Phoenician Scheme.”

In the film, del Toro takes on the role of Zsa-zsa Korda, a wealthy business magnate in Europe, while Threapleton plays his daughter, Sister Liesel, a nun under the tutelage of Bjorn Lund, played by Michael Cera. The star-studded cast also includes Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Jeffrey Wright, Riz Ahmed, Scarlett Johansson, Richard Ayoade, Mathieu Amalric, Rupert Friend, Hope Davis, and Benedict Cumberbatch.

“The Phoenician Scheme” was filmed in Germany, with Anderson collaborating on the story with Roman Coppola, and Alexandre Desplat composing the score.

Anderson, known for his distinctive visual style, has recently worked on films like “Asteroid City” in 2023 and “The French Dispatch” in 2021. His unique approach to filmmaking has earned him critical acclaim, including an Oscar win for his short film, “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar,” in 2024.

The film was produced by American Empirical Pictures, with Jeremy Dawson, John Peet, and Steven Rales involved in the production. Focus Features will distribute the film, following their successful collaborations on “Asteroid City” and “Moonrise Kingdom.”

Despite his recognizable style, Anderson shared in 2023 that he focuses on creating the best possible film with each project, rather than dwelling on his own artistic voice. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in his filmmaking process.

Audiences can anticipate the release of “The Phoenician Scheme” with a limited release on May 30, followed by a wider distribution on June 6. The film promises to offer viewers a glimpse into the intricate dynamics of family relationships, brought to life by a talented ensemble cast.
