(AbsoluteNews.com) – Facebook is not a company known for doing a good job of protecting its user info. The company has exposed the data of hundreds of millions of its users in previous breaches. That’s what’s making a recent WhatsApp policy change so troubling.
According to a January 7 Daily Mail report, millions of WhatsApp users were recently told they would have to share their data with Facebook or lose access to the app. People (except those in Europe and the UK) who use the app will no longer be able to opt-out of data sharing. The change means Facebook officials will be able to see who users contact and how often, but not the actual content of their messages.
Privacy International, a technology watchdog, is appalled by the new change.
WhatsApp's notification to accept its new policy or lose your account is wrong on so many levels we need a short thread to talk about it

How long before Facebook exposes WhatsApp users’ data to outside entities? With their track record, how are users ever supposed to trust their information is in good hands? They don’t know, and to be put in a position where they have no way of opting out is unacceptable to many users. That being said, the way forward for Whatsapp users is not clear with the new policy scheduled to start on February 8.
