Woman shot to death by her husband while their kids were at home

ST. CLOUD, FL – Two boys sought refuge at a neighbor’s home after their father allegedly shot and killed their mother, according to the St. Cloud Police Department. The father, Jose Otero-Fontanez, 48, has been formally charged with first-degree murder related to his wife’s death.

The boys reportedly alerted the police about the domestic incident, as evidenced by the 911 calls that were released on Monday by the St. Cloud Police Department, along with body camera footage from the responding law enforcement officers.

One of the boys can be heard on the 911 call narrating the events, “My dad and mom had been fighting, and my mom started screaming, and my dad shot her.”

The body camera footage captures the responding officer announcing his presence at the front door of the home. Moments later, a gunshot echo can be heard coming from inside the house, which leads the officer to declare, “Shots fired.”

The alleged shooter, Otero-Fontanez, eventually exited the house and was apprehended by law enforcement officials without further incident. He is currently in law enforcement custody with additional charges pending in the case.

Neighbors in the vicinity expressed their shock at the terrifying incident. A neighbor named Jeremy commented, “It was nerve-wracking. Especially when you have live rounds of ammunition flying around your neighborhood.” Moreover, it was reported by St Cloud Police Chief Douglas Goerke that Otero-Fontanez had allegedly fired shots at a drone police used to get visuals inside the house.
