STAMFORD, Conn. — Major roster changes are underway in WWE as the company has confirmed the release of several high-profile talents. Sean Ross Sapp from Fightful Select reported that an internal memo was distributed to employees announcing the departures of main roster stars including Braun Strowman, Shayna Baszler, Dakota Kai, Kayden Carter, and Katana Chance.
Adding to the upheaval, NXT star Cora Jade announced her exit via social media, expressing appreciation for the opportunities she received during her time with WWE. Jade, a former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion, shared her intention to discuss her journey further in the future, hinting at more news to come.
In addition to these well-known figures, several more NXT performers have reportedly been let go, including Gigi Dolin, Riley Osborne, Eddy Thorpe, and Gallus, which consists of Joe Coffey, Mark Coffey, and Wolfgang. Reports also indicate that Jakara Jackson has parted ways with the organization, following a recent storyline split with her partner, Lash Legend.
While the specifics surrounding the releases are still unfolding, Sapp noted that some contracts may not have been renewed, rather than outright terminations. Dakota Kai’s departure is particularly noteworthy as she was approaching the three-year mark since her return to WWE. Initially released in April 2022, Kai was one of the first wrestlers rehired by Paul “Triple H” Levesque after he took over as WWE Chief Content Officer.
Kai was a key figure in the Damage CTRL faction, which she formed alongside Bayley and current WWE Women’s World Champion IYO SKY at SummerSlam 2022. Despite being involved in significant storylines, including a championship feud earlier this year, Kai had not appeared on television in the weeks leading up to WrestleMania 41.
Similarly, Strowman, another of Levesque’s notable rehires, made a return in September 2022. The former WWE Universal Champion engaged in prominent rivalries, battling various competitors such as Omos and Bronson Reed. Strowman was active in media appearances during WrestleMania week and expressed a strong desire to revisit a feud with Jacob Fatu.
This wave of talent releases has sent ripples through the wrestling community as fans react to the news. The restructuring raises questions about WWE’s future direction, especially as the company navigates a competitive landscape with rival promotions like AEW gaining ground.
As this story evolves, more details are expected to emerge regarding the implications of these releases on WWE’s roster and its overarching strategy. Fans and industry observers alike will be watching closely to see how these changes reshape the promotion’s future.
