Young father killed in Thanksgiving dispute

FORT WORTH, TX – Thanksgiving has turned into a somber occasion for a Fort Worth family after a tragic incident left a husband and father dead in his own driveway. Oscar Beto Lopez, 26, was found lifeless on Davis Avenue, near Mississippi Avenue, following a dispute with a neighbor over loud music.

Amanda Fernicola, Lopez’s widow, recounted the heart-wrenching events that unfolded Sunday night. Lopez had just returned home with food for his family when gunshots shattered the evening calm. “I saw his truck, but not him,” Fernicola said. “I walked out, calling for him, and saw his legs on the ground. I couldn’t believe it was real.”

Fort Worth police detained Caspian Swinney, a neighbor, who was observed leaving a nearby residence shortly after the shooting. Investigators revealed that a verbal argument between Lopez and Swinney escalated into a physical altercation, culminating in Swinney discharging his firearm multiple times.

Fernicola shared that their home surveillance cameras captured the moments leading up to the tragedy. “The video shows the music playing, then being turned off,” she explained. “You can hear someone say, ‘Can you turn it down?’ before the confrontation.”

This was not the first time Swinney had voiced his discontent over noise in the neighborhood, according to Fernicola. “He was upset about our music on my birthday too,” she added, reflecting on the tensions that had been simmering.

Lopez leaves behind two sons, a five-year-old and an infant just over three months old, as well as a grieving wife who struggles to comprehend the loss. “I screamed and screamed that night,” Fernicola remembered. “I can’t believe he’s not coming home.”

As the family grapples with their devastating loss, Swinney remains in custody, facing serious charges. The incident has left the community in shock, transforming what should be a joyful holiday into a time of mourning.
