The New York City Police Department announced an arrest on Saturday in the killing of a teen boy fatally shot while riding a Queens-bound subway train in broad daylight on Friday afternoon. Keyondre Russell, 18, was arrested and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Authorities say that the arrest of Russell was his first arrest on record. He had no prior criminal charges that preceded the murder.

Police say the 18-year-old opened fire on a crowded A train in Queens yesterday, killing a 15-year-old who later died at the hospital. The suspect held his head down and had nothing to say as police escorted him to jail tonight.

The name of the victim that was shot was Jayjon Burnett. He was found by a Good Samaritan that pulled him out onto the platform.

First responders attempted resuscitation, and the rushed to Cohen’s Children’s Hospital. It was at the children’s hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The victim’s sister told news sources that her brother was more like a son to her.

A neighbor of the team shared that Burnett’s mother was devastated by the shooting. He was so young, and they were distraught that he didn’t get the chance to live a full life.
