Young woman survives being swept over 20 miles in flood rapids

CENTER POINT, TX – A dramatic rescue unfolded early this morning along the Guadalupe River, where a young woman was miraculously saved from a tree branch after being swept away by floodwaters. The woman, who began her harrowing journey near Hunt Ingram, traveled approximately 22 miles downstream, enduring a perilous ordeal that left onlookers in disbelief.

The woman’s journey began around 4 a.m. when rising waters forced her family to seek higher ground. As their vehicle was overtaken, they escaped through the sunroof, clinging to a tree for safety. Tragically, she was separated from her parents and found herself alone, navigating the swift current.

Local resident Carl recounted the moment he heard her cries for help. After spotting her clinging to a tree, he immediately called 911. Despite a delay in response, Carl and neighbors used a bullhorn to reassure her until help arrived.

Rescue teams eventually reached the scene, using a boat to bring the woman to safety. Once ashore, she was taken in by Carl and his family, who provided her with clothing, a warm shower, and a chance to rest. The woman, originally from Midland, was in shock, bearing cuts and bruises from her ordeal.

As the community rallied around her, efforts were made to contact her family. Her parents, along with other relatives, remain missing. The woman’s grandmother in Corpus Christi was notified, and a cousin from Austin came to her aid.

With search and rescue operations still underway, helicopters hovered overhead, scanning the river for signs of other survivors. The Texas Department of Public Safety is coordinating the ongoing efforts as the community hopes for more miraculous rescues.

The extraordinary survival story has captured the hearts of many in Center Point, a testament to courage and the power of community in times of crisis. As the search continues, the focus remains on finding the missing family members and providing support to those affected by the flooding.
