Cash Payout Alert: Walmart Shoppers Could Win Money in Weighted Groceries Settlement!

Los Angeles, California – Shoppers who bought weighted groceries or bagged fruit at Walmart in recent years may have a chance to receive a cash payment as part of a class action settlement with the retailer. The lawsuit, initially filed in October 2022, claims that Walmart customers nationwide and in Puerto Rico who purchased certain meat, seafood, and bulk citrus products ended up paying more than the lowest advertised price in stores.

While Walmart has denied any wrongdoing, they have agreed to settle the case for $45 million. This settlement will allow affected consumers to submit claims for cash payments. According to a spokesperson from the Arkansas-based company, Walmart maintains their commitment to providing customers with low prices while believing that a settlement is the best resolution for both parties involved.

Consumers looking to file a claim and find out more information about the covered products can visit the settlement administrator’s website. Cash payments are available for individuals who purchased the specific weighted meat, seafood, and bagged citrus items, including oranges, grapefruits, and tangerines, at Walmart locations in the U.S. and Puerto Rico between October 19, 2018, and January 19, 2024.

The amount of payment for each claim will vary, with options available for those without proof of purchase. Consumers without receipts can receive between $10 and $25 by attesting to the number of eligible products they bought during the settlement period. On the other hand, individuals with documentation may be eligible to receive 2% of the total cost for each purchased item, up to a maximum of $500.

Approved claimants will receive their payments electronically through platforms like Venmo, Zelle, ACH, or a virtual prepaid MasterCard. For those unable to receive electronic payments, paper checks can also be requested. The deadline to submit claims is June 5, with a final approval hearing scheduled for June 12. Any objections or comments about the settlement must be submitted by May 22 for consideration.
