Fire: United Airlines flight engine bursts into flames at Chicago airport, passengers evauate smoke-filled plane

Chicago, Illinois – A United Airlines flight was forced to abort takeoff at O’Hare International Airport after one of the plane’s engines caught fire, creating a dramatic scene on the tarmac. The incident occurred on Monday as United Flight 2091 was preparing to fly to Seattle with 148 passengers and five crew members on board.

Passengers and crew were evacuated after the Airbus 320’s engine burst into flames on the taxiway, prompting the Federal Aviation Administration and United Airlines to issue statements about the incident. Video footage captured thick smoke billowing from one of the wings as the plane was being towed back to a gate.

Ivan Paloalto, a passenger on the flight, recounted hearing an explosion as the plane was about to take off. “I felt the impact on my window. As I looked, the engine was on fire and smoke was coming out,” he said. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, and first responders quickly addressed the engine issue.

Operations at O’Hare International Airport were briefly suspended following the incident, disrupting travel plans on one of the busiest weekends of the year. Meanwhile, travelers at JFK International Airport also faced delays due to thunderstorms passing through the area.

United Airlines reassured passengers that alternative travel arrangements were being made, allowing them to deplane safely. The airline noted that the engine malfunction was swiftly handled, minimizing potential risks to passengers and crew members.

As the holiday weekend unfolded, the unexpected incident served as a reminder of the challenges and disruptions that can occur in air travel. Despite the unsettling experience, passengers and crew were relieved that the situation was managed efficiently, preventing any harm or injuries.
