CANNES, France — Richard Linklater’s highly anticipated film “Blue Moon,” which explores the life of legendary songwriter Lorenz Hart, is set to premiere in theaters on October 17, with a subsequent wider release on October 24.
The announcement comes as Linklater’s latest project, “Nouvelle Vague,” is making its debut at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. “Blue Moon” stars Ethan Hawke in the role of Hart, alongside a talented cast that includes Margaret Qualley, Bobby Cannavale, and Andrew Scott. This poignant biopic focuses on the final days of Hart’s life, highlighting the opening night of “Oklahoma!” on March 31, 1943, a milestone in American theater history marking the start of Richard Rodgers’ collaboration with Oscar Hammerstein II, with Hart stepping aside.
This project marks the ninth collaboration between Hawke and Linklater, known for their powerful storytelling synergy. The film initially premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, where Andrew Scott received the Silver Bear for Best Supporting Performance, showcasing the film’s impactful narrative and performances.
“Blue Moon” is produced by Linklater, alongside Mike Blizzard and John Sloss. The film is a product of Detour/Renovo in collaboration with Wild Atlantic Pictures, Under The Influence, and Cinetic Media.
