Max Rebranding: HBO Returns to Transform Streaming with Unmatched Quality and Explosive Growth!

New York City – Warner Bros. Discovery announced today that it will officially rebrand its streaming service, Max, back to HBO Max this summer during its Upfront presentation. This strategic move aims to capitalize on the brand equity and recognition that the HBO name carries in the world of entertainment.

The rebranding comes on the heels of impressive growth for WBD’s streaming business, which has turned a nearly $3 billion profit in just two years. The service has also seen remarkable global expansion, adding 22 million subscribers in the past year alone. Company leadership projects that the subscriber base will exceed 150 million by the end of 2026.

In a media landscape increasingly focused on quality over volume, consumers are seeking standout content rather than more options. Warner Bros. Discovery is adapting to this shift by prioritizing high-caliber programming—like premium HBO series, blockbuster films, and original documentaries—while de-emphasizing genres that attract less viewer engagement.

“We are restoring the HBO brand to HBO Max to enhance what subscribers can expect from our service,” said David Zaslav, President and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery. “The growth of our global streaming service is built on the quality of our programming, and this move will further accelerate our success.”

At Madison Square Garden, JB Perrette, President and CEO of Streaming, and Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, elaborated on the rebranding plans. Perrette emphasized a commitment to creating content that resonates with audiences rather than trying to appeal to everyone. “Our programming simply hits differently,” he stated.

Bloys echoed these sentiments, underscoring that rebirthing HBO Max aligns closely with the company’s mission to deliver unparalleled content. “We believe this name better encapsulates our current offering and reinforces our pledge to provide viewers with unique and high-quality storytelling,” he commented.

HBO Max has established itself as a premier streaming destination, offering a curated selection of engaging narratives across genres. Subscribers can enjoy acclaimed scripted series, feature films, documentaries, adult animation, and more. The platform also boasts popular franchises such as HBO, Warner Bros., Max Originals, DC, and beloved classics like “Friends” and “The Big Bang Theory.”

As the streaming market continues to evolve, Warner Bros. Discovery remains committed to refining its approach based on consumer trends and preferences, solidifying its position as a leader in high-end entertainment.
