PA Fair Elections Engages in Last-Minute Campaign to Reject Thousands of Mail-In Ballots in Pennsylvania – CNN Report

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania – In the crucial battleground state of Pennsylvania, a disturbing trend is emerging as numerous mail-in ballots are being targeted for rejection. This last-minute campaign is causing concern among voting rights groups and frustrating local election officials.

The campaign, seemingly led by only a few individuals, is aimed at invalidating ballots from overseas voters and challenging the eligibility of people who have requested their mail to be forwarded to a different address at some point. This wave of challenges has been sent to more than a dozen counties in the state, according to information gathered by local and state officials.

Many election boards have dismissed these challenges as baseless, but they have added unnecessary stress to an already tense situation leading up to Election Day. The ACLU’s senior attorney, Ari Savitzky, labeled the effort as disruptive to the crucial work of election boards.

In some counties, challenges were submitted just minutes before the deadline, creating chaos for officials trying to ensure a smooth and fair election process. Bucks County, for example, received nearly 1,200 challenges to overseas voters mere minutes before the Friday deadline.

The challenges filed in various counties were all reportedly traced back to a few individuals, including State Senator Jarrett Coleman. Despite attempts to reach out for comment, Coleman did not respond.

Pennsylvania’s top election official, Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt, described the challenges as “coordinated” and “bad-faith,” suggesting that the basis for these challenges had been rejected by courts in the past.

The effort to challenge overseas ballots is not limited to Pennsylvania, with Republicans and conservative groups launching similar legal assaults in other battleground states. In Pennsylvania alone, there were over 28,000 overseas voters in the 2020 election.

As the deadline for resolving these challenges looms, the fate of these ballots remains uncertain. The potential disenfranchisement of voters and the legal battles that may ensue add complexity to an already contentious electoral process. Ultimately, the impact of these challenges on the outcome of the election remains to be seen.
