SANTA BARBARA, California – Actor Ron Ely, best known for his portrayal of Tarzan on television, passed away at the age of 86. The sad news was confirmed by Ron’s daughter, Kirsten Ely, in an emotional Instagram post on Wednesday.
Kirsten described her father as a multifaceted man, highlighting his roles as an actor, writer, coach, mentor, family man, and leader who left a positive impact on everyone he encountered. In addition to his iconic role as Tarzan in the NBC series from 1966 to 1968, Ron Ely appeared in various television shows and films, including The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, and Wonder Woman. His last onscreen appearance was in the 2014 TV movie Expecting Amish.
