Royal Visit: Duke and Duchess of Sussex Begin Tour of Nigeria with School Visit

Abuja, Nigeria – The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have embarked on a significant three-day visit to Nigeria, marking their first trip to the country as a couple. The royal visit comes as part of a series of events linked to the Invictus Games, a sporting event for injured service members founded by Prince Harry, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

Upon their arrival in Abuja, the couple commenced their itinerary with a tour of the Lightway Academy, a primary and secondary school in the capital city. They were warmly welcomed by traditional dancers and engaged with primary schoolchildren during their visit. The couple shared insights into their own family during the tour, mentioning their children Archie, who recently turned five, and two-year-old Lilibet.

During their visit to the school, the Duke and Duchess participated in various activities, including joining a kindergarten class where children aged up to five danced and sang. Meghan mentioned that dancing was Lilibet’s favorite class, adding a touch of humor by suggesting that her enthusiasm may stem from all the jumping around.

In addition to their school visit, the royal couple launched a two-day mental health summit in Nigeria. Prince Harry is scheduled to further his engagements by heading to a military rehabilitation center in Kaduna. The Duke and Duchess will also extend their visit to Lagos, where they plan to attend various events, including a training session for Nigeria: Unconquered, a charity that collaborates with the Invictus Games.

Furthermore, Meghan is set to co-host an event centered around Women in Leadership with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the director-general of the World Trade Organization (WTO). Their visit to Nigeria follows Prince Harry’s recent participation in the 10th-anniversary celebration of the Invictus Games at St Paul’s Cathedral in London.

As part of their engagement in London, Prince Harry attended a party organized by a charity supporting bereaved children of military personnel. The royal couple’s visit to Nigeria marks an important chapter in their involvement with various charitable initiatives and showcases their ongoing commitment to social causes.
