Ventura County, California – A 17-year-old girl was rescued from human trafficking after sending a distress text message to authorities in Southern California. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Communication Center received the message in the early hours of April 9, leading deputies to locate the girl based on the landmarks she described.
The teenager, whose identity has not been disclosed, was found in the Casita Springs area after a swift search by law enforcement. Cruz, 31, faces charges including human trafficking, forcible rape, lewd acts upon a child, luring, and sexual penetration with force. Despite pleading not guilty, he remains in custody at Todd Road Jail on a $500,000 bail with a court date set for May 22.
Authorities did not disclose whether the victim had family in the United States or provide details on when the reunion with her family was expected to take place. The swift action by law enforcement highlights the importance of communication channels in combating human trafficking and ensuring the safety of vulnerable individuals. The case serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges in addressing trafficking across borders and the critical role of law enforcement in safeguarding victims.
