Kyiv, Ukraine – The city of Kyiv, Ukraine plunged into darkness as Russian bombing raids damaged multiple energy stations across the country on Thursday night. President Volodymyr Zelensky urgently reached out to Republican leaders in Congress for approval of much-needed aid amidst ongoing Russian airstrikes.
The largest private power provider in Ukraine, DTEK, reported that at least three of its thermal power stations were targeted in the overnight attacks. The Ukrainian military disclosed that the onslaught involved dozens of missiles and approximately 60 explosive drones directed at critical energy infrastructure.
While Ukrainian air forces successfully intercepted 84 out of 99 targets, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal revealed that the Russian strikes resulted in significant damages to energy assets across six regions, necessitating emergency shutdowns in some areas.
