Kyiv, Ukraine – Despite concerns over the potential pause in foreign aid grants by newly sworn-in US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reassured the public that military aid from the US has not been halted. Zelenskyy, speaking at a press conference alongside Moldovan President Maia Sandu, emphasized the importance of such assistance, as Ukraine relies on the US for 40% of its military needs.
Zelenskyy also expressed readiness to offer coal to Moldova, which is facing an energy crisis following the disruption of Russian gas supplies through Ukraine. Moldovan President Sandu pointed to Russia orchestrating the energy crisis, noting the hardships faced by regions under her government’s control and those held by pro-Russian separatists.
In his remarks, Zelenskyy suggested that US President Donald Trump could play a pivotal role in ending the conflict in Ukraine, but stressed the necessity of involving Kyiv in any negotiations. Despite uncertainties surrounding the terms of a potential deal, Zelenskyy highlighted Russian President Vladimir Putin’s reluctance to seek an end to the war.
Looking ahead, Zelenskyy expressed hope for the involvement of Europe, the United States, and Russia in talks aimed at resolving the conflict. He asserted that Ukraine’s participation in such discussions was crucial for achieving a meaningful outcome, underlining the need for a comprehensive framework to guide the negotiations.
Meanwhile, in Slovakia, Prime Minister Robert Fico faces mounting pressure to step down following mass demonstrations against his government’s shifting policies towards Russia. Tens of thousands took to the streets in Bratislava, with similar protests staged across the country, marking the largest displays of dissent since Fico’s return to power.
Amid escalating tensions, reports emerged of civilian casualties in the Russian-occupied Kherson region in Ukraine, with three individuals losing their lives in shelling. Moscow-installed governor Vladimir Saldo urged residents to seek shelter as the violence intensified.
The situation further deteriorated as Russia launched missile and drone attacks targeting various regions in Ukraine, resulting in casualties and widespread damage. Ukrainian authorities reported successfully intercepting several drones and missiles, underscoring the escalating conflict’s devastating impact on civilians and infrastructure.
