Budapest, Hungary – Max Verstappen faces scrutiny from the Hungarian Grand Prix stewards following a collision with Lewis Hamilton during the race. The incident occurred as Verstappen, frustrated by strategic decisions that caused him to fall back to fifth place, attempted to overtake Hamilton’s Mercedes on lap 63 of 70.
Verstappen’s ambitious move to pass Hamilton by diving on the inside of Turn 1 resulted in a collision as he struggled to brake in time, ultimately causing his rear-left tire to hit Hamilton’s front-right tire. The collision sent Verstappen into the air, allowing Charles Leclerc to gain position over him, with Carlos Sainz also joining the battle for position.
As a result of the clash, Verstappen is called to appear before the stewards to address the incident, scheduled for 17:50 local time. Despite being investigated for other racing infractions earlier in the race, such as going wide at Turn 1 on the opening lap and overtaking Lando Norris, Verstappen avoided penalties by giving back the position he gained from Norris.
The collision between Verstappen and Hamilton added a dramatic twist to the race, with Hamilton securing his 200th career podium finish. The intense competition and strategic maneuvers by the drivers kept fans on the edge of their seats throughout the event, showcasing the high stakes and adrenaline-filled atmosphere of Formula One racing.
